The Staufenberg is a nature reserve in the community-free Harz region in the district of Göttingen in Lower Saxony .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG BR 080 is 163  hectares in size. A 141 hectare part of the nature reserve forms the FFH area of the same name . A 23 hectare area in the east - the Hundertmorgenwiese and the slopes of the Fuchsberg - is part of the EU bird sanctuary "Südharz bei Zorge". The center of the nature reserve is formed by the "Großer Staufenberg" natural forest reserve . The nature reserve is bordered to the northeast and the south by the conservation area "resin" and the east by the natural preserve "Südharz". The area has been a nature reserve since January 31, 2008. It replaces the nature reserve of the same name that was designated on March 2, 1991. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Göttingen.

The nature reserve is located south and east of Zorge on the edge of the Harz Nature Park on the border with Thuringia .

In the area of ​​the Great and Small Staufenberg and the Fuchsberg, it is characterized by predominantly submontane to montane beech forests (sloping gorge, grove beech and woodruff beech forests). The central area on the Großer Staufenberg is designated as a natural forest and is left to its natural development.

In the range of hundreds of morning area, which from the natural stream flows through the Elsbachs, it will of grassland with bristle grass lawns , meadows and humid Hochstaudenfluren embossed.
