Stephan Wagner (director)
Stephan Wagner (born November 15, 1968 in Mainz ) is a German film and television director and screenwriter .
Life
Stephan Wagner was born as the son of the microbiologist Hermann Wagner . From 1978 he attended the Rabanus-Maurus-Gymnasium in Mainz , where he graduated from high school in 1987 . In 1989 he moved to Austria . In 1990 he began studying film directing and scriptwriting at the University of Music and Performing Arts , Film & Television Department ( Vienna Film Academy ) in Vienna. His short films made during this period have been shown at numerous international film festivals. The highlight in 1998 was the invitation of his graduation film The House Caretaker or a short film about order to the competition of the Semaine de la Critique at the Cannes International Film Festival . At the same time he worked as assistant director to Peter Patzak . In 1996 he completed his studies in film directing as a Magister artium with distinction. Since then he has worked as a screenwriter, producer and above all as a director. In 1998 he made his cinema debut Cuban Smoking with Simon Licht , Thomas Morris and Seymour Cassel in the leading roles. Here he was also responsible for the film editing for the first time . In order not to appear more than once in the credits, he adopted the pseudonym Gunnar Wanne-Eickel . In 1999 he returned to Germany. From here on he also worked for television.
In 2004 he received the Adolf Grimme Prize in the category of fiction and entertainment for his film Dienstreise - What für ein Nacht , together with the actors Christoph Waltz and Armin Rohde . In 2013 he received a second Grimme Prize for The Jakob von Metzler Case , together with actor Robert Atzorn and screenwriter Jochen Bitzer . He received the third Grimme Prize in 2014 for Mord in Eberswalde together with the actors Ronald Zehrfeld , Florian Panzner as well as the author Holger Karsten Schmidt and the production designer Zazie Knepper . The films How do I get my mother up? Were also nominated for the Adolf Grimme Prize . (2005), In Matters Kaminski (2006), Mothers Fathers Children (2009) and Polizeiruf 110 - Click Made (2010), Ransom (2013) and Two Alone (2015). In addition, Stephan Wagner was awarded the Bobby der Lebenshilfe media award in 2006 for In Matters Kaminski and the 3sat audience award of the Baden-Baden television film festival for use in Hamburg - the last test in 2007 . In 2009, screenwriter Christian Jeltsch for the script and Stephan Wagner for directing Polizeiruf 110 - Klick made were awarded the Golden Gong .
Stephan Wagner is a member of the Federal Association of Directing , where he was elected to the board from February 2005 to October 2018, as well as a member of the German Film Academy , the Academy of Austrian Films and the German Academy of Performing Arts . In December 2010 he was a founding member of the German Academy for Television , of which he was deputy chairman of the directing section until October 2013. From 2014 to the end of 2018, he held a seat on the administrative board of the Filmförderungsanstalt (FFA) for the federal directors' association .
