Gustav Anton Reichsfreiherr von Imhoff (born February 12, 1793 in Kulm , † May 23, 1875 in Danzig ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Gustav was a son of the Prussian major Gustav Christoph Friedrich von Imhoff (1759-1813) and his wife Anna, née Hoffmann, a daughter of the mayor of Kulm. His brother Anton (* 1796) became Imperial Russian Major General.

Military career

After visiting the cadet houses in Kulm and Berlin , Imhoff joined the 3rd East Prussian Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army on May 24th, 1810 as porter ensign . He was promoted to secondary lieutenant in mid-May 1811 and participated in the sieges of Magdeburg, Wittenberg, Gorkum and Soissons as well as the battles near Möckern , Halle , Wettin, Kalau, Luckau , Hoyerswerda, Großbeeren , Dennewitz , Leipzig , Laon , Hoogstraeten and Crepy during the Wars of Liberation part. In addition, Imhoff was at the transition near Wartenburg and the storm on Arnhem. For Dennewitz and Leipzig he received a commendation and for Halle he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class.

After the war he was promoted to prime lieutenant on August 14, 1816 , and a month later he was commanded to Wroclaw as adjutant of the 11th Brigade . He was promoted to captain on April 3, 1820, when he was transferred to the commandant's office in Luxembourg . From the end of March 1830, Imhoff was in command as an adjutant at the General Command of the VIII Army Corps in Koblenz, rose four years later to major and on March 30, 1835 was first the 29th and then on May 16, 1836 the 25th Infantry Regiment aggregated . He resigned when he was appointed commander of the 1st Battalion in the 40th Infantry Regiment (8th Reserve Regiment) on March 30, 1837, and was promoted to lieutenant colonel in this position on March 30, 1844 . On June 16, 1848 he was charged with leading the 5th Infantry Regiment in Posen , Imhoff was appointed regimental commander on January 14, 1847 and promoted to colonel on March 27, 1847 . Under awarding of the character as a major general Imhoff took his on 10 January 1850 farewell with board . He died in Danzig on May 23, 1875.

The commanding general zu Dohna wrote on December 28, 1847: “The brigade - again the division commander - had fully qualified him for his current position as regimental commander and praised his prudence and energy. I am of the opinion that he meets the requirements to be made of a regimental commander in several essential respects and makes him very useful in this position through his energy and his consistency. family

Imhoff married on November 18, 1826 in Cologne Karoline Elvine von Sjöholm (1803-1831), a daughter of the major general and commander of Cologne von Sjöholm . After her untimely death, he married her cousin Auguste Emilie von Sjöholm (1809–1863), a daughter of the Swedish lieutenant colonel Karl Johann von Sjöholm (1764–1845), on May 6, 1836 in Cologne. The following children were born from the first marriage:
