The grammar school in den Filder Benden (usually just called Filder Benden for short ; acronym : GFB ) is one of four grammar schools in the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Moers . As an independent advanced grammar school , it emerged in 1971 from a separation from the Adolfinum grammar school , to which it had been affiliated as an advanced branch since 1926.

In September 2011 the Filder Benden had around 1150 students and around 86 teachers and trainees. Under the motto “Together for Education”, the high school focuses on natural sciences , music and languages, such as upper-level instruction in Japanese.

Description and location

The grammar school in den Filder Benden is located in the Vinn district of Moers near the city center. In the north-west, the palace and leisure park borders on the 15,400-square-meter school grounds at Zahnstrasse 43, and in the east, the historic buildings of the Martinstift , which is now the Moers music school. 300 meters south of the school as the crow flies behind Venloer Straße are the Solimare swimming and outdoor pool , which could be used for school swimming activities until it was demolished in 2013, and the large sports facility Filder Benden of the GSV Moers , which was completed in 2014 and which can be used for school sports.

Since 2009 the bus stop 200 meters away no longer has the name “Dr.-Karl-Hirschberg-Straße”, but has been renamed “Gymnasium Filder Benden”.

The school consists of a main and ancillary building, and it also has two sports halls and a cafeteria . In total, the school consists of around 70 rooms, including normal classrooms as well as specialist rooms for the subjects of biology, physics, chemistry, art and music. There are also four computer and media rooms, an auditorium that can hold around 200 people, and two schoolyards , an inner and an outer courtyard.

history

Thanks to the commitment of the then director of the Adolfinum grammar school , Prof. Friedrich Heinz, a development branch was added to the Adolfinum in 1926 . During the Second World War , the school building was destroyed by an air attack in 1944. However, after just one year, classes at Martinstift could be resumed. The school returned to the rebuilt building on Wilhelm-Schröder-Strasse in 1951. Around 1971 the state advanced high school moved to the building on Zahnstrasse and was thus finally separated from the Adolfinum. At that time the high school had 441 students and 34 teachers and space for 27 classes. The high school has had a sports hall and school sports field since 1972. The city of Moers has been the sponsor of the grammar school since 1974. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of independence, the school has had the name since 1991: “Gymnasium in den Filder Benden. Municipal grammar school and advanced grammar school ”. In 1994 the City Council of Moers decided to phase out the construction branch. Since then it has been called the Gymnasium in den Filder Benden . In 2001 the five-year renovation and refurbishment of the school began. The first G8 classes started at Filder Benden in 2006/07 . After a fire in the school library, a new media library was set up in 2008 , to which a cafeteria with 100 to 120 seats was added in May 2011.
