Hiking trail sign cave path in Hemer-Brockhausen

The Höhlenweg was a main hiking trail in the association area of the Sauerland Mountain Association and, like all the other main hiking trails, had the white St. Andrew's cross X as a signpost , extended by the number 4 at intersections.

It began in Witten at the train station and led via the Muttental , Volmarstein , Wetter (Ruhr) , Herdecke , Hengsteysee , Iserlohn and Sundwig to Binolen in the Hönnetal . The total length was 76 km.

The hiking trail got its name from the many caves along the way, for example the Dechen cave in Iserlohn.

In 2012, the SGV decided to abandon the cave trail along with other main hiking trails and no longer to mark them. It was deleted from the association's register of roads on April 1, 2014.
