Harkortweg

The Harkortweg is a 137 km long hiking trail in North Rhine-Westphalia , which is maintained by the Sauerland Mountain Association and has the sign "X17".

It begins in Düsseldorf - Kaiserswerth and leads via Ratingen , Essen-Kettwig , Velbert , Langenberg , Hattingen , Gevelsberg , Ennepetal , Breckerfeld and Altena to Werdohl .

The hiking trail bears its name in honor of the industrial pioneer Friedrich Harkort . In Kohlberg near Neuenrade , the path leads past the SGV memorial.

history

The Harkortweg was created at the beginning of the 20th century with the X17 sign and initially only extended from Werdohl to Hattingen- Blankenstein . After the Bergisches Land was assigned to the club's territory, the Sauerland Mountain Association extended the route to the Rhine near Kaiserswerth in 1937 . This extension was given the addition a until after the Second World War , so that this section was listed as X17a.
