The Hanseweg is a 140 km long main hiking trail in the association area of ​​the Sauerland Mountain Association and, like all the other main hiking trails, has the white St. Andrew's cross X as a signpost , extended by the number 13 at intersections.

It connects the old, former Hanseatic cities of Soest , Arnsberg , Grevenstein , Winterberg and Medebach .

After starting in Soest, the route leads over the Möhnetalsperre , Arnsberg, Grevenstein, Eslohe , Bad Fredeburg , the Kahler Asten , Winterberg , Medebach to Herzhausen an der Edertalsperre .

Council of Europe Virtual Culture Path

Occasionally, a Council of Europe cultural route is referred to as the "Hanseweg". In fact, this “route” is a mere network of those cities that used to belong to the Hanseatic League and want to belong to today's Hanseatic League, not connected by fixed physical land connections .
