The Schlösserweg is a main hiking trail in the association area of ​​the Sauerland Mountain Association and, like all other main hiking trails, has the white St. Andrew's cross X as a signpost , extended by the number 19 at intersections.

The path leads past eight castles over a length of 198 km. With Benrath Castle , the first is located shortly after the starting point at the Düsseldorf-Benrath train station . The path continues past Garath Castle to Leichlingen (Rhineland) . Now the path of the Wupper follows in the direction of Solingen, where the third castle, Burg Castle, is reached.

You walk through the Eschbachtal towards the Eschbachtalsperre , then on to Dreibäum , Wipperfeld , Rönsahl and Meinerzhagen in the Wildenburger Land . The Wildenburg and Crottorf castles are located there . Via Freudenberg and Siegen with its two castles, the path continues via Wilnsdorf and Haiger to Dillenburg , where the castle ruins there are the last castle on this hiking trail.

The Schlösserweg was created at the beginning of the 20th century with the signpost X19 and initially only extended from Dillenburg to Meinerzhagen. After the Bergisches Land was allocated to the club's territory, the Sauerland Mountain Club extended the route to the Rhine near Benrath in 1935 . This extension was given the addition a until after the Second World War, so that this section was listed as X19a.
