Rhenish way

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rheinische Weg is a main hiking trail that is located in the area of the Sauerland Mountain Association . Like all other main hiking trails, it has the white St. Andrew's cross X as a sign . It is the only SGV main hiking trail that has a letter in addition to the number. The identifier is 11a.

In Gummersbach-Niederseßmar the path branches off from the main hiking trail 11 and leads via Berghausen, Hohkeppel and Herkenrath to Bergisch Gladbach in the Rhine plain. With a length of 55 km, the route is one of the shortest main SGV hiking trails.

In 2012, the SGV decided to abandon the Rheinischer Weg along with other main hiking trails and not to mark it again. In 2013, the SGV announced that due to the historical importance of the Rheinischer Weg, this route would continue to be used as the main hiking route.
