Haßloch is a district of Rüsselsheim am Main east of the city center in the Groß-Gerau district in southern Hesse .

history

Haßloch is mentioned in a document from the middle of the 12th century. In 1155, the abbot of the St. Alban Abbey in Mainz acquired a farm away from the village and ran it. The village in which the farm was located was soon abandoned. In 1330 the Lords of Falkenstein acquired the property in exchange for the tithe to Ober-Eschbach and Dorf-Güll . They set up a water castle in the immediate vicinity of the monastery courtyard . This moated castle developed into a robber knight's nest to the detriment of passing merchants , which primarily offended Kurmainzer interests.

In the course of a feud with Kuno von Falkenstein , Haßloch Castle was occupied by the Archbishop of Mainz Gerlach von Nassau in 1356 ; In 1356, the archbishop received the right to found a town from Emperor Charles IV . This never happened, but the archbishops remained the undisputed owners. In 1805 the remains of the castle were purchased by the municipality.

The Kurmainzerische village Haßloch was for a long time in the church of Seilfurt and after the destruction of this place by a fire disaster in the year 1476 in the parish of Rüsselsheim. During the Reformation , Haßloch was temporarily evangelical, but re-Catholicized around 1617 and subordinated to the church in Flörsheim am Main . In 1828 the chapel, built in 1686, was elevated to a parish church, which for a long time also served the Catholic minority of Rüsselsheim until the construction of the parish church of St. George.

The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Haßloch in 1829:

»Haßloch (L. Bez. Dornberg) cath. Parish village; is 1 34  St. from Dornberg, and has 28 houses and 229 inhabitants, except for 11 Luth. are catholic. Nearby is a small hill that extends far into the plain and is said to have been a Roman hill. - Haßloch used to be a court and originally belonged to the Albans monastery near Mainz. Through this monastery, the court came to the Eberbach monastery in 1168 , which exchanged it for other goods in 1331 to the Lords of Falkenstein. From the Falkensteiners Haßloch came back to Mainz and finally in 1802 to Hesse. The farm was previously divided among 12 peasants and thereby expanded into a village. The castle which the Herr von Falkenstein built came with Haßloch to Mainz and then to Hesse. In 1805 the municipality bought the remains of the castle. The place was a branch of Flörsheim and was raised to its own parish in 1828. «

The spatial convergence with the neighboring city and the economic orientation towards Rüsselsheim led to the fact that the village, which had a population of just over 700 at that time, was incorporated into the municipality in 1951.

coat of arms

Coat of arms of Hassloch
Blazon : “The Hassloch coat of arms is a split shield. At the top there is a silver six-spoke wheel in a red field. At the bottom there is a red hare running in a hazel hedge. "
Justification of the coat of arms: While the Mainz wheel reminds of the long local rule of Kurmainz, the lower part of the coat of arms indicates the origin of the place name "Hasel-a (c) h" and reminds of the numerous hazel hedges in the area.
