history

The name is reminiscent of Roman antiquity. When many veterans received areas on the Po in return for the campaigns. It is believed that the addition "Boscone" comes from the fact that the Cesano area was surrounded by forest. Archaeological excavations in the area of the Church of San Giovanni Battista, testify of Roman origins, as well as the location of the two main streets, Via Roma and Via Milano.

Further archaeological excavations have unearthed a necropolis that is dated to Lombard rule . The arrangement of the skeletons was examined, which were arranged in parallel rows and not distributed in an indefinite order as the Romans did. There is speculation that the Church of St. John the Baptist was founded by Queen Theodolinda in 613.

Cesano Boscone was part of the county of Milan in the 10th century when it was a city of considerable size and under the jurisdiction of the Olivetana Lorenteggio religious community. Over time, Cesano Boscone's importance began to decline. In the years 1629/1930 the population decreased dramatically after the plague raged in Cesano Boscone. A testimony to the Habsburgs in Cesano is the "Villa Marazzi", whose restoration was recently completed. During the Austrian rule, the city and its municipality belonged to the province of Milan.

With the division of the provinces of Lombardy, during the time of the Kingdom of Lombardy-Veneto , the municipality of Cesano Boscone was restored. The first census of 1861, in the Kingdom of Italy , showed a population of 654. Until 1901 the population remained below 1000.

In the post-war period , Cesano took in many people from Sicily , the Marche and Friuli-Venezia Giulia who came either because of earthquakes or displacement. In the 1960s the population increased sharply, the reason being emigrants from southern Italy who came to the north.
