Hans Kaspar von Herzberg

Hans Kaspar von Herzberg (* 1685 in Hertzberg, West Pomerania ; † December 15, 1745 near Kesselsdorf ) was a Prussian major general , chief of the infantry regiment "von Voigt" , governor of Driesen , canon of Cammin and heir to Groß- and Klein-Herzberg, Joduth and Steinberg.

Life

origin

He was a member of the Pomeranian noble family von Herzberg . His father was Dionysius von Herzberg (1637-1730), heir to Groß- and Klein-Herzberg and Steinberg. He went to the regiment (Margrave Albrecht), where an uncle was a captain , and went with him to the War of the Spanish Succession . In 1702 he was present at the siege of Kaiserswerth , his uncle was killed in the storm of the fortress.

Military career

Herzberg became an ensign and lieutenant , but was unlucky enough to get a bullet in the chin. He recovered and was given his own company in 1713 . During the Pomeranian campaign in 1715/1716 he was in the siege of Stralsund . He was noticed by King Friedrich Wilhelm I , as he soon began to replenish his regiment. The king made him a major in the von Heyden infantry regiment . There he became lieutenant colonel on February 1, 1727 and colonel in 1738 .

During the First Silesian War , Herzberg went to the camp near Brandenburg in 1741. In 1742 he received the infantry regiment "von Voigt" and on May 23, 1743 became major general. In the Second Silesian War he moved with the king's army to Bohemia in 1744 and fought near Hohenfriedberg and Kesselsdorf . He was leading a battalion of the "Leipziger" infantry regiment when he was fatally hit in the first storm on the village of Kesselsdorf.

family

Herzberg was married to Anna Katharina von Kameke (1678–1746) from the Peest family. She was the widow of Major Eggard von Witten and the owner of the Parpart estate in Pomerania. The couple had no children. His stepdaughter later married Major General Wolf Alexander Ernst Christoph von Blanckensee .
