Hans Mühlbauer (born July 20, 1980 in Freilassing ) is a former German triathlete . He is the winter triathlon world champion (2008).

Career

Hans Mühlbauer has been practicing duathlon and triathlon since 1994 and he was the youngest athlete in Klagenfurt when he started the Ironman distance for the first time at the age of 18 (3.8 km swimming, 180 km cycling and 42.195 km running). In 2000 he became the Bavarian duathlon champion among the juniors and in 2001 he became a member of the national military team.

Hans Mühlbauer mainly started in long distance competitions. He started five times in the Ironman World Championship .

Military World Champion 2005

He achieved his best result there in Hawaii in 2005 with 24th place in the overall ranking and the title of military world champion Ironman.

At the Ironman European Championship 2006 in Frankfurt am Main, he finished seventh. In 2008 he became winter triathlon world champion in the M25 category in Freudenstadt.

He was trained by Bennie Lindberg and started for TSV Bad Reichenhall . In 2006 he was in the long-distance squad of the German Triathlon Union (DTU). Hans Mühlbauer worked as a professional triathlete from 2004 to September 2010 and from 1999 to 2012 as a regular soldier in the mountain hunter battalion.

Since 2013 he has been working in Salzburg as a physiotherapist and training scientist. In August 2015, after a three-year break, he was able to win the Feldkirchner Triathlon (sprint distance) for the eleventh time. The 35-year-old started again in 2016 as an amateur at the Ironman distance and he finished tenth at Ironman Austria in July.

Hans Mühlbauer is married and lives in Ainring .
