Rudolf August Hans von Gersdorff (born August 27, 1847 in Hosterwitz , † February 11, 1929 in Wiesbaden ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 6th Cavalry Brigade .

Life

Hans was a son of the Saxon court marshal and owner of the manor Gröditz Rudolf von Gersdorff (1804-1894) and his wife Isidora, née von Bose (1810-1871). She was the widow of Count Ludwig von Zech-Burkersroda (1806–1839) and daughter of Lieutenant General Karl August Joseph Friedrich von Bose . He still had two sisters.

Military career

After attending the grammar schools in Schulpforte and Bautzen as well as the military education institute of Leutnant a. D. von Grabowski in Berlin , Gersdorff joined the Magdeburg Dragoon Regiment No. 6 of the Prussian Army on May 4, 1865 as a flagjunker . On April 17, 1866 he was transferred to the 7th Brandenburg Infantry Regiment No. 60 . The following war against Austria Gersdorff took part in the Battle of Hradec Kralove in part and was for his brave behavior to Sergeant promoted. Awarded the Iron Cross Gersdorff was after the peace agreement of 31 October 1871 to the September 30, 1872 to the Military Riding Institute for Hannover commanded. On May 18, 1876 he was promoted to prime lieutenant and from May 1878 on for one year to the General Staff . In the same year he had a serious fall with his horse and broke his pelvis . On June 16, 1894 Gersdorff was appointed regimental commander and he rose to colonel by the end of March 1897 . Due to the long-term consequences of his pelvic fracture, he had to submit his departure and was then put up for disposition on September 12, 1902, with the award of the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves and the statutory pension . He died unmarried on February 11, 1929 in Wiesbaden.
