The Heinkel He 274 was a German fighter aircraft that was about to be completed at the end of World War II .

development

Since the Heinkel design office was fully occupied with numerous developments, the design and construction of the He 274 was transferred to the French Farman aircraft works, which were managed by Heinkel after the defeat of France . On the basis of the He 177 fuselage, the new design was created with a new wing with a 44 m span and a double tail unit . The nose of the fuselage was designed as a pressurized cabin , since the machine was supposed to operate as a high-altitude long-range bomber at a height of 14,000 m above the operating altitude of the fighter aircraft known at the time . Four special DB 603A-2 high-altitude engines with turbochargers, each with 1850 hp, were provided for the drive .

The Farman workforce in Suresnes began work on the project in 1943. Due to constant delays, not infrequently caused by sabotage by French resistance fighters, only two cells were completed at the time of the invasion , but they were not ready to fly due to the lack of engines. After the end of the war they were equipped with engines and used by the French for altitude test flights. In addition, the aircraft were given the designations AAS-01 and AAS-02. They flew for the first time on December 30, 1945 and December 22, 1947. In 1953 they were scrapped due to a lack of spare parts.
