Heinrich Gottlob von Braun (born October 25, 1717 (also: 1714) in Giersleben , † December 24, 1798 in Berlin ) was a Prussian infantry general .

Life

He was the son of Adam Friedrich von Braun (* December 24, 1661 in Voigtstedt; † December 7, 1739), Mr. greed life and anhaltinisch-Köthener Amtshauptmann , and his second wife Eleonore Sophie, nee von Polenz made by ZIEGRA (* June 13, 1681). His stepbrother August Wilhelm von Braun (1701–1770) also became a Prussian general.

Military career

In 1732 he came to the court of the Prince of Anhalt-Köthen as a page . In 1734 Braun went to a newly established Anhalt battalion as an ensign , which was assigned to the Imperial Army. With him he took part in the Rhine campaign. In May 1735 he entered Prussian service and was employed as an ensign in the regiment on foot "Leopold von Anhalt-Dessau" . There he became second lieutenant on September 17, 1738 .

With the grenadier battalion "von Bolstern" Braun fought in the First Silesian War in the assault on Glogau and in the battle of Mollwitz and was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on May 24, 1742 . During the Second Silesian War he took part in the siege of Prague and the battle of Kesselsdorf . Promoted to staff captain on December 22, 1745 , Braun rose to captain and company commander on January 19, 1746 . In the Seven Years' War he received the order Pour le Mérite for his achievements in the Battle of Lobositz , in which he was wounded in the arm . After the death of Frederick the Great, he was given the honor of wearing the tip of the shroud in his funeral procession. On January 1, 1794, he was appointed general of the infantry. While retaining his commandant position, Braun dimitted on December 29, 1794 with an annual pension of 2000 thalers.

After his death in 1798 he was buried in the governor's vault of the garrison cemetery. His name can also be found on the plaques of honor on the equestrian statue of Frederick the Great on Unter den Linden .

Braun marries Louise von Bornstedt (born July 5, 1728) in 1748. The following children were born from the marriage:
