Herbert Schnauber (born February 15, 1938 in Michelstadt im Odenwald ) is a German engineer , Professor i. R. for work system planning and design at the Ruhr University Bochum and entrepreneur. He is considered an expert in the field of quality management and worked in the German Society for Quality (DGQ) as vice president , as interim managing director and is an honorary member .

Life

Herbert Schnauber studied from 1958 to 1963 at the RWTH Aachen , the Department of Ferrous Metallurgy and graduated as an engineer of foundry technology from. He then worked for the well-known occupational physician and physiologist Erich Albert Müller as a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Occupational Physiology in Dortmund . There he laid the foundations for his thesis and developed a research methodology to the maximum possible muscle strength using the example of the forearm contraction of concrete taking into account mechanical frame and boundary conditions with which he in 1969 with Walter Rohmert (1929-2009) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Technical University of Darmstadt doctorate was . He then headed the ergonomics department at Hoesch-Werke AG in Dortmund until 1972 .

At the same time Schnauber in the fields was Industrial Design (from WS 1966 to SS 1972) and economic (the WS 1970 and WS 1973) Lecturer at the FH Dortmund in the fields of ergonomics and ergonomics . In addition, Schnauber was a substitute professor for Manfred Schweres from SS 1979 to WS 1979 at the University of Hanover . From 1972 to 1985 he was in teaching and research in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Polytechnic and University of Siegen operates. There he represented the subjects of ergonomics , occupational safety and security technology and was entrusted with setting up an ergonomics laboratory . At the same time Schnauber completed his habilitation at the University of Siegen and received the qualification to teach ( Venia Legendi ) in the field of production engineering and ergonomics. During this time he was already responsible for numerous industrial projects for workplace design and work organization.

Schnauber is and was also volunteer in many areas of life . He headed the Ruhr area of the German Society for Quality (DGQ) from 1989 to 2001 and the Siegen district of the DGQ from 2006 to 2018.

His voluntary activities in tennis should also be emphasized . For example, he was here from 1969 to 2014, for a total of 45 years, as youth warden and until 1976 as 1st chairman of the TC Kreuztal-Buschhütten and then as district sports warden in office. From 1981 he headed the district of South Westphalia in the Westphalian Tennis Association (WTV) as district chairman for 33 years . In this function he was able to play a decisive role in the sports facility noise protection ordinance , which successfully initiated a balance between sports facilities and residential developments.

Act as a professor

In 1980 Herbert Schnauber was appointed professor to the chair for ergonomics at the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg and in 1985 to the chair for work system planning and design at the Ruhr University in Bochum . There he accepted the challenge of developing and shaping the postgraduate course “Industrial Science”, which was unique in Germany at the time , together with colleagues from various faculties, especially the work economist Erich Staudt and the work sociologist Willi Pöhler . At the same time, he played a key role in the further expansion of the Institute for Industrial Engineering , a central scientific institution of the Ruhr University Bochum . Schnauber represented the fields of work sciences and work system planning not only in teaching, but also in numerous research projects, always taking quality management issues into account. In the context of these research activities, Schnauber supervised 15 dissertations and one habilitation .

In 1986, Schnauber and seven colleagues from the Ruhr University Bochum founded Innotec GmbH & Co.KG , an organization that, as part of the Future Initiative (ZIM), was to contribute to structural change in the Ruhr area with funds from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Together with Wolfgang Maßberg and Hans Seifert , a CIM pilot factory was built, in which Schnauber took on the tasks of assembly and quality assurance . This resulted in the company Innosys GmbH, a company for innovative work systems , of which he was managing director until 2013. The Innosys has made with the development and design of innovative work and quality management systems a name in a variety of industries and organizations. For example in the automotive industry, especially in cooperation with Volkswagen , Johnson Controls , Bosch and Opel in Bochum . But also in other branches of industry, such as Miele , Knorr-Bremse , Carl Zeiss , ThyssenKrupp , BSH Hausgeräte , and organizations such as the Federal Police , several ministries in North Rhine-Westphalia , clinics in Herne , Hamburg , Munich , Böblingen , the Federal Network Agency and the like. v. a. m. the Innosys company was successful. A basis for this was above all the concept developed with Michael Ketting, among others, for holistic company diagnostics , which was also used in companies in the construction machinery industry .

Special mention should be made of Schnauber's activities in the area of quality management . From 1992 to 2001 he organized the Bochum Quality Days every year , which has developed into one of the most important conferences for quality managers in the Ruhr area and beyond. Schnauber has succeeded in winning well-known experts and industry representatives from quality management as speakers for this event; Walter Masing , Klaus J. Zink , August Wilhelm Scheer , Tilo Pfeifer , Johann Tikart , Christian Homburg , Vinod Singhal , Dietrich HW Grönemeyer , Horst Wildemann, among others, could be won as guest speakers. It is thanks in particular to Schnauber's commitment that there is the German quality award , the Ludwig Erhard Prize . As the initiator and jury chairman of the North Rhine-Westphalian Quality Award and as a member of the jury for the quality awards in the states of Saxony , Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia , he played a major role in spreading the idea of excellence between 1996 and 2003 . In 2004, under the patronage of Federal President Roman Herzog , he was chairman of the program commission of the EFQM Forum in Berlin with more than 1000 participants. In addition, several scientific conferences of the DGQ from 1998 to 2004 were chaired by Schnauber. In 2013 he was Chairman of the Walter Masing Book Prize of the International Academy for Quality (IAQ).

Schnauber has researched and published a wide range of ergonomics and quality management . On behalf of the DGQ board, he has been the publisher of the specialist journal for quality and reliability (QZ) since 2004 . From 1989 to 2001 Schnauber headed the regional Ruhr area of the DGQ, before he again volunteered for the regional district Siegen of the DGQ from 2006 to 2018 .
