Hermann Welcker (politician)

Hermann Ludwig Welcker (born May 17, 1814 in Lichtenberg ; † March 14, 1887 in Darmstadt-Bessungen ) was a tax officer and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Hermann Welcker was the son of the magistrate Georg Christoph Casimir Welcker and his wife Henriette Luise Albertine nee Katz. He married Salome Marie Julie Henriette Amanda née Verbier on April 21, 1845 .

Hermann Welcker attended the private school of Schmitz in Darmstadt from 1826 to 1828 and the grammar school there until 1832. He then studied camera science at the Universities of Gießen and Heidelberg from 1832 to 1835. During his studies he became a member of the Old Giessener Fraternity of Germania in 1832 and of the Old Heidelberg fraternity Franconia . His first employment in the civil service took place in the secretariat and the registry of the Chamber of Accounts in 1840. From 1849 he was a member of the chief tax office and director of tax control. From 1855 to 1866 he was also a member of the examination committee for finance and technical subjects. Since 1862 also member of the Central Office for State Statistics. In 1881 he became chairman there and was appointed privy councilor. From 1873 he was also the first member of the management of the public debt repayment fund, relieved from the position of director of tax control. From autumn 1872 to 1878 he was a member of the II. Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse as a representative of the electoral district of Darmstadt .

From 1874 to 1877 the German Reichstag for the National Liberal Party and the constituency of Hesse 4 (Darmstadt, Groß-Gerau ).
