Hinko Ernst Julius Ferdinand Balthasar Friedrich Freiherr von Lüttwitz (born October 20, 1855 at Jagdschloss Bodland ; † June 16, 1928 ) was a Prussian infantry general .

Life

origin

He was the son of Ernst Freiherr von Lüttwitz (1823-1892) and his wife Cecile, née Countess Strachwitz von Groß-Zauche and Camminetz (1835-1910). His father was a Prussian captain a. D. , chief forester and dike captain . Walther von Lüttwitz , who later became the German infantry general and was instrumental in the Kapp Putsch , was his younger brother.

Military career

Coming from the cadet corps, Lüttwitz was transferred on April 19, 1873 as a second lieutenant to the 2nd Silesian Grenadier Regiment No. 11 of the Prussian Army in Breslau . For a short time in June / July 1875 he was assigned to the Silesian Pioneer Battalion No. 6 and from October 1, 1876 for one year to the 2nd Silesian Jäger Battalion No. 6 . From 1 October 1879 to the September 30, 1881 acted Lüttwitz as adjutant of the First Battalion of the 2nd Silesian Landwehr Regiment. 11. On April 22, 1912 Lüttwitz advanced to lieutenant general and commander of the 18th division in Flensburg . In approval of his resignation request, he was put up for disposal on December 30, 1913 with the statutory pension .

When the First World War broke out , Lüttwitz was re-used as a zD officer and commanded the 12th Reserve Division until November 29, 1914 . In the further course of the war he commanded various large units , most recently from October 25, 1916 to September 30, 1917 the 203rd Infantry Division on the Eastern Front . As a general of the infantry zD he was awarded the Order of the Crown, First Class with Swords, in November 1917 .
