The Holy Family Church is the Catholic Church in Vienenburg , a district of the district town of Goslar in Lower Saxony . It is a branch church of the parish Liebfrauen with its seat in Bad Harzburg , in the deanery Goslar-Salzgitter of the diocese of Hildesheim . The church named after the Holy Family is located at Friedrich-Rese-Straße 38.

history

After Vienenburg Castle , built in 1306, came to the Hildesheim Monastery in 1642 or 1643 , the now established Catholic official parish used the castle chapel for their services. During the later affiliation to Prussia , however, the castle fell into disrepair and the castle chapel had to be closed. From 1824 on, the services of the Catholic parish Vienenburg-Lochtum took place in the church of the Wöltingerode monastery .

Since the way to Wöltingerode was too far for the Vienenburg Catholics, today's church was built with a great deal of personal contribution from the community. On September 5, 1826 the topping out ceremony was held, and was followed on December 8, 1829 by Bishop Godehard Joseph Osthaus the consecration . In 1954 the church got its first heater.

Since July 1st, 2007 the church belongs to the parish of Liebfrauen, the parish of the Holy Family was abolished at that time. Also since July 1, 2007, the church has belonged to the then newly established Deanery Goslar – Salzgitter. Before that she belonged to the Deanery of Goslar, which was dissolved at that time. Today, the preservation of the church and parish life is supported by the Association for the Promotion of the Catholic Church Congregation Hl. Familie Vienenburg e. V. supports.

The tower, designed as a large roof turret, and the choir are covered with slate . A mission cross attached to the outside of the choir commemorates the popular mission of 1976.

The entrance hall with a monopitch roof was added in 1859. The stained glass window in the anteroom of the church was designed by A. Reinker from Everswinkel and made in 1986 by Peters glass painting company from Paderborn . It shows the Holy Family with the psalm verse Ps 122.1  EU , flanked by the Jerusalem Temple and St. Peter's Basilica in Rome , the Cathedral in Hildesheim and the Vienenburg Church. The stained glass windows in the nave are the work of the G. Deppen u. Sons from Osnabrück .

The stalls leave a central aisle free and offer space for around 150 visitors. The Johannes altar, consecrated on May 14, 1643, is a former side altar of the Wöltingerode monastery, the twelve images of the apostles and the confessional also come from there. The statues of the altar represent the Holy Johannes Nepomuk , John Cantius , John the Evangelist and John the Baptist . The altarpiece shows the Cross of Jesus .

14 stations of the cross hang on the side walls of the church . The above the door to the sacristy located painting represents the Annunciation by the Archangel Gabriel to Mary . To interior of the church also a part baptismal font , a Crucifixion , a Pietà , a representation of the home transfer of Mary , a copy of the miraculous image of Our Lady of of perpetual help and a crescent moon Madonna , in front of which sacrificial candles can be placed.

Another Catholic facility in Vienenburg is the churchyard with its own chapel. The parish and youth home of the parish was inaugurated by Bishop Joseph Godehard Machens on May 3, 1952 as the St. Bernhard youth home. It was named in 1975 after Bishop Friedrich Reese , who was born in Vienenburg . The street on which the church and the parish and youth home of the parish are located also bears his name.
