The Hong Kong Velodrome ( Chinese  香港 單車 館  /  香港 单车 馆 , Pinyin Xiānggǎng Dānchēguǎn , Jyutping Hoeng 1 gong 2 Daan 1 ce 1 gun 2 ) is a multifunctional sports facility with a velodrome in Hong Kong . It is located in the Sai Kung District in Tseung Kwan O in the immediate vicinity of the Tseung Kwan O Sports Ground , the venue for the 2009 East Asian Games .

The construction of the Velodrome officially began on November 5, 2012, and the opening was on December 30, 2013. It is located in a 5.3  hectare large park , the Hong Kong Velodrome Park ( 香港單車館公園  /  香港单车馆公园 ). The shape of its roof is based on the helmet of a cyclist. The track is 250 meters long and 7 meters wide and is made of Siberian spruce . It complies with the standards of the World Cycling Association UCI . This means that official international competitions can be held on it. It offers seats for a maximum of 3000 spectators.

The interior of the cycle track can also be used for other sports such as badminton , basketball , volleyball or tennis . There are also fitness and dance rooms as well as a play room for children. In the park surrounding the velodrome there are other facilities such as a skate park , a climbing wall , artificial ponds and several children's playgrounds .

2015 UCI awarded the hosting of the third run of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup 2015/16 to the Hong Kong Cycling Association . The competitions are scheduled for January 16-17, 2016 at the Hong Kong Velodrome.

In addition to this closed cycle track, there is another cycle track in Hong Kong, the open cycle race track with concrete pavement in Sha Tin District . This sports facility in Sha Tin was completed in 2010 and is part of the Hong Kong Sports Institute . One reason for the construction of the second cycle race track in Hong Kong was the medal successes of track cyclists from Hong Kong, such as Lee Wai-sze ( world champion ) in the 500-meter time trial , Kwok Ho Tings ( world champion ) and Wong Kam Pos ( world champion ) successes in scratch to be built upon.
