The Hootmanns Meer is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipality of Osterwald in the municipality of Neuenhaus in the Grafschaft Bentheim district .
The nature reserve with the sign NSG WE 127 is 30 hectares in size. It is almost completely part of the EU bird sanctuary "Dalum-Wietmarscher and Georgsdorfer Moor". The area has been a nature reserve since August 16, 1980. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the county of Bentheim.
The nature reserve is located northwest of Georgsdorf and is part of the Bourtanger Moor , of which it preserves a small part. In the reserve, which of moor grass areas and birch is characterized, can be found up to four meters mighty Torfauflagen.
The moorland is drained via ditches to the Coevorden-Piccardie Canal .
Fire in June 2011
In June 2011, a fire broke out from the edge of the nature reserve, in which around three hectares of grass, bog and heather were burned. The fire was triggered by an overheated engine of an old motor vehicle.
