The Tillenberge are a nature reserve in the Lower Saxon town of Nordhorn in the Grafschaft Bentheim district .

The nature reserve with the sign NSG WE 009 is 96  hectares and lies in the districts of Brandlecht and Hesepe . It is almost identical to the FFH area of the same name “Tillenberge”, which was designated in 2004 . The area has been a nature reserve since July 21, 2001. It was initially designated as the “Brandchten Vechtetal and Tillenberge”. In 2018, the nature conservation ordinance was revised and the area was designated as the “Tillenberge” nature reserve on April 19, 2018. The approximately 16 hectare “Tillenberge” nature reserve, which was designated on November 14, 1936, had merged into the “Brandchten Vechetal und Tillenberge” nature reserve. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the county of Bentheim.

The nature reserve is located southeast of Nordhorn in the lowland area of the Vecht and the surrounding mountains Tille, an inland dune landscape. In the lowland area of the Vechte there are hardwood forests and several oxbow lakes , still waters and ditches , some of which are connected to the river . The nature reserve is the habitat of the wolffish and bitterling . Parts of the area are cultivated as grassland . Mixed oak forests and partly mesophilic beech forests can be found at the valley edges . The inland dunes of the Tillenberge in the northern area of the nature reserve are characterized by heather and grassy areas. Here come dwarf shrub with broom and bell heather and crowberry and juniper as well as grasslands with silver grass , Red and White bent grass before. Parts of the heather are covered with bushes of juniper (→ juniper heather ). Partly sparse stands of birch-oak- Krattwald . Damp depressions are partially muddy. The dune areas are habitat and a. various sand bees and the sand lizard .

Since the beginning of 1996 around 20 hectares of the nature reserve in the area of the Tillenberge have been looked after and maintained by the Nordhorn zoo . In order to counter the threat of shrub cover on the heathland, they are grazed with Bentheimer Landschafen . Part of the Tillenberge serves as a local recreation area , which can only be walked on marked trails. There is a visitor control concept to protect the sensitive ecosystems. In the south, the nature reserve borders the residential development of Brandlecht and the Brandlecht estate. A road runs through the nature reserve that connects Brandlecht with Hesepe.
