IC 4180 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 / a with an active galaxy core in the constellation Hydra south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 127 million light years from the Milky Way and about 35,000 light years across .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4968 , NGC 4970 , NGC 4993 , IC 4197 .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on February 27, 1898 .
