IC 4178 is an irregular galaxy, dwarf galaxy of the Hubble-type Im in the constellation Hounds in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 55 million light years from the Milky Way and about 15,000 light years across .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 5002 , NGC 5014 , IC 4171 , IC 4189 , IC 4213 .
The object was discovered by Max Wolf on March 21, 1903 .
