IC 5338 is a cD galaxy of the Hubble type E3 in the constellation Pegasus in the northern sky . It is an estimated 739 million light years from the Milky Way and about 220,000 light years in diameter. Presumably it forms a gravitational galaxy pair together with IC 5337 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 7688 , IC 5329 , IC 5331 , IC 5336 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on November 25, 1897 .
