Indemini , in the Alpine Lombard dialect Indemen [inˈdeːmən] , is a village in the Ticino municipality of Gambarogno . Until April 24, 2010, it formed an independent political municipality .

geography

Aerial photo (1954)

Indemini is, seen from Locarno , behind the Gambarogno at 950  m above sea level. M. in the otherwise Italian Val Veddasca . From Vira the road leads from 190  m up to Alpe di Neggia at 1395  m and then back down to the village, which is at 960  m . There are 37 hairpin bends and 254 normal bends to be negotiated. The valley river, the Giona , flows into Lake Maggiore near Maccagno .

history

The village is first mentioned in 1213 as Indempno and in 1260 as Indemine . Indemini was conquered by the confederates , as its location was strategically important as the first place on the other side of the St. Anna Pass. While the other villages of the Veddasca valley oriented towards Luino and Maccagno, Indemini oriented towards the Swiss Confederation. The pass was made accessible by soldiers in the Middle Ages, but only mobile in the 20th century.

On November 25, 2007, the merger of the nine municipalities on the south bank of Lake Maggiore was approved by eight municipalities: Caviano , Contone , Gerra , Indemini, Magadino , Piazzogna , Sant'Abbondio and Vira merge to form the municipality of Gambarogno. Only San Nazzaro spoke out against the consolidation of the municipalities. An appeal was lodged with the Federal Supreme Court against the decision of the Ticino Grand Council to carry out the merger as planned. After the complaint was rejected, the merger took effect on April 25, 2010.

In the early 1980s, indemini's continued existence was threatened with continued emigration. Out-of-town Indeminesi were unwilling to return to their remote home community. Thanks to a certain amount of immigration from German-speaking Switzerland, the town now has a little over forty inhabitants again.

Today the village is half Italian and half German speaking (2002: 49% each German and Italian speaking).

economy

Indemini is connected to Vira-Gambarogno and San Nazzaro by a post bus line. Important branches of business are agriculture, catering and small businesses.

There are only a few jobs in urban areas. It is therefore proverbial that you have to create your own workplace if you want one.
