The village of Irnsing is part of the town of Neustadt an der Donau in the Kelheim district in Lower Bavaria . Until 1978 it formed an independent municipality.
location
The place is located on a steep slope on the northern bank of the Danube opposite the city of Neustadt. While the lower part of the village is still on the oxbow lakes of the Danube, the upper part is already on the heights of the Jura, which begins here . Regensburg is about 45 km to the east, Ingolstadt 30 km to the west. Munich is about 95 km south of the town.
history
For the first time the place was mentioned in the year 900 as "Eringisingun", this means for the members of the "Eringis". "Eringisingun in pago Kelescove" was located in the Kelsgau and in the county of the first Wittelsbacher Otto I. von Scheyern . The second documentary mention followed in 1012, when King Heinrich II , who was born in nearby Bad Abbach , gave the place to his newly founded diocese of Bamberg with all its accessories , as had the village of Pförring before .
For centuries, Irnsing was the seat of a noble house as well as an independent Hofmark , to which a strongly fortified castle belonged. The lords of Irnsing, who named themselves after "Irensingen" and "Pferdeingen" (Pförring), are documented from 1109 to 1470. The "Irnsinger-Pförringer" was followed by the knightly Prantl family. Through the marriage of the widow of court chief Franz Adam Prantl, the property came to Marquard Ludwig Ferdinand Freiherr von Nothaft around 1690 . After his death, the goods complex was transferred to the Cammerloher von Weiching family, who also exercised jurisdiction over the town of Hienheim . Under Josef Freiherr von Speidel von Adlerskron, the heir of Marquard Eustachius von Cammerloher, who died in 1774, the judicial powers were temporarily lost to the Kelheim and Neustadt courts. In 1783 the treasurer and caretaker of Mindelheim , imperial baron von Lerchenfeld , acquired the seats in Irnsing and Hienheim and was thus given back the jurisdiction involved. By marrying Anna Reichsfreiin von Lerchenfeld, the property passed to Major Joseph Freiherrn von Schleich, who had been taken prisoner of war during the Russian campaign of 1812 . In 1822 the royal treasurer Franz Freiherr von Gruben bought the Irnsing court marque. It remained in his possession until the landlord's jurisdiction was abolished in 1848.
Irnsing Castle was demolished in the 17th century and the current village church was built in its place. The Irnsing Castle , which today still towers over the town's silhouette as a stately three-storey building with a half-hipped roof , was created by converting the Sedelhof next to it . The walls surrounding the castle are still preserved in the lower part of the church hill.
A three-hectare rampart, the so-called Bürg or Irnsinger Römerschanze , located northeast on a hill directly on the Danube, was believed to be the remains of a Roman fort for a long time . The Imperial Limes Commission did not find any evidence of Roman origins in the course of excavations and assumed that the Bürg was a refuge against the Hungarians from the 9th or 10th century. Because of the mortar of the wall found inside the wall, the complex is currently dated to the beginning of the High Middle Ages; Furthermore, because the fortification reaches down to the level of the Danube, the possibility of using it as a port facility is pointed out.
In the late Middle Ages , Irnsing was known for its viticulture . Terraced fields in the Danube slopes and field names still remind of this.
On January 1, 1978, the previously independent municipality was incorporated into the city of Neustadt an der Donau.
church
The Expositur Church of the Birth of the Virgin was built in the early Gothic style and was provided with baroque elements in the 18th century.
Economy and Infrastructure
The village has 560 inhabitants. It is home to some handicraft businesses, but is otherwise heavily influenced by agriculture and forestry. Residential areas have been designated in recent years.
