Jankowo ( German Jankowen , 1938 to 1945 Wildenort ) is a small town in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and belongs to the Gmina Wielbark (city and rural community Willenberg ) in the powiat Szczycieński ( Ortelsburg district ).
Geographical location
Jankowo is located in the southern center of the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship , 15 kilometers southwest of the district town of Szczytno ( German Ortelsburg ).
history
Jankowen was founded in 1788 and basically consisted of just one large farm. In 1874 the rural community was incorporated into the newly established district of Kannwiesen (in Polish: Chwalibogi , no longer existing today), which belonged to the East Prussian district of Ortelsburg .
On November 8, 1894, the neighboring communities Wessolowen and Jankowen merged to form the new rural community Wessolowen (1938 to 1945 Fröhlichshof , Wesołowo in Polish ). Jankowen was renamed on June 3rd - officially confirmed on July 16th - 1938 for political and ideological reasons to defend against foreign-sounding place names in "Wildenort".
As a result of the war, all of southern East Prussia came to Poland in 1945 . Wildenort received the Polish form of the name "Jankowo". The place is now a place within the urban and rural community Wielbark (Willenberg) in the powiat Szczycieński ( Ortelsburg district ), until 1998 the Olsztyn Voivodeship , since then the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship belongs.
church
Jankowen resp. Wildenort belonged to the church of the city of Willenberg until 1945 : to the Protestant Church of Willenberg in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union and to the Roman Catholic St. Johannes Nepomuk Church in the city, which at that time belonged to the Diocese of Warmia . Today Jankowo belongs to the parish of Wielbark on the Catholic side , but is now in the Archdiocese of Warmia . The Protestant residents orientate themselves to the parish in Szczytno (Ortelsburg) in the diocese of Masuria of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .
