The Gmina Wielbark [ ˈvʲɛlbark ] is a town-and-country municipality in the powiat Szczycieński of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in Poland . Its seat is the city of the same name ( German Willenberg ) with 6508 inhabitants; the main town itself has 3035 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2019).
geography
Location and area
The municipality is located in the south of the voivodeship (in historical East Prussia ) and borders there on the Masovian voivodeship . In the north, the district town of Szczytno ( German Ortelsburg ) is about 15 kilometers away. The city of Olsztyn (Allenstein) is about 50 kilometers away.
The municipality of Wielbark has an area of almost 348 km², of which around 35% of the area is used for agriculture and 58% for forestry. The population density is 19 inhabitants per km².
The waters include the Omulew (Omulef) and the tributaries Sawica (Sawitz) and Wałpusza (Waldpusch) .

history
The city Wielbark fell in 1945 to Poland and lost in 1946, the town charter . From 1975 to 1998 the municipality belonged to the Olsztyn Voivodeship . On January 1, 2019, Wielbark was restored to town and the municipality received its current status.

Evangelical
In the area of the city and rural community of Wielbark there is now a single Protestant church. It is the church in Wielbark , which is no longer used for worship and is currently being protected from deterioration by restoration measures. The Protestant residents of Wielbark and the surrounding area belong to the parish in Szczytno (Ortelsburg) within the Masurian diocese of the Evangelical-Ausgburgic Church in Poland .
Roman Catholic
There are two Roman Catholic parish churches in the municipality . They are in the town of Wielbark and in the village of Lesiny Wielkie (Groß Leschienen), which is close to the border with the Masovian Voivodeship . Both are assigned to the Archdiocese of Warmia . If the parish Wielbark belongs to the Deanery Szczytno , the parish Lesiny Wielkie (with the branch parish Księży Lasek (Fürstenwalde) ) is assigned to the Deanery Rozogi (Friedrichshof) .
traffic
Street
The urban and rural community of Wielbark has excellent transport connections. By the municipality direction north-south extending in the Masuria and the province Masuria by withdrawing country road 57 (earlier German National Highway 128 ), which in the Northern Masovian ends. The two voivodeship roads 508 and 604 connect the municipality with state roads 58 (near Jedwabnon (Gedwangen) ) and 7 (near Nidzica (Neidenburg) ), today's European route 77 . In addition, a side street leads to 53 at Rozogi (Friedrichshof) .
rails
Two railway lines run through the municipal area, but they are currently not used. With the railway stations Wielbark, Jesionowiec (Jeschonowitz , 1930 to 1945 Eschenwalde) and Piwnice (Groß Piwnitz , 1938 to 1945 Großalbrechtsdorf) it is on the north-south railway line Ostrołęka – Szczytno (Polish State Railway Line 35), with the city and Przeździęk Wielki (Groß Dankheim , until 1900 Groß Przesdzienk) it is connected to the west-east railway line Nidzica – Wielbark (line 225).
