The Gmina Szczytno is a rural community in the powiat Szczycieński in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . The seat of the administration is the district town of Szczytno ( German Ortelsburg ), which as an independent municipality does not belong to the rural municipality.

Geographical location
The rural community is located in the Masurian Lake District , on the southeastern edge of the Allenstein Lake District, 147 meters above sea level in the former East Prussia .

The Wałpusza River (Waldpusch) flows through the municipality in a north-south direction.
While the Damerauberge rises up to 200 meters in the north , the rest of the landscape is rather flat and characterized by forests.

The Gmina Szczytno, which covers the entire area of the city of Szczytno , has an area of 346.2 km².
It makes up 17.96% of the total area of the Szczycieński Powiat and consists of 48% forest and 36% agricultural area.

Streets
Three state roads and one provincial road run through the municipality :
- The national road 53 , the voivodship Olsztyn (Allenstein) with Ostrołęka in the Masovian connects,
- the major road 57 (former German National Highway 128 ), the province Masuria permeates in north-south direction and Bartoszyce (Bartenstein) until after Maków Mazowiecki in the Masovian leads,
- the state road 58 , which connects Olsztynek (Hohenstein) with Szczuczyn , also located in Mazovia, and
- the Provincial Road 600 between the district towns of Mrągowo (Sensburg) and Szczytno (Ortelsburg) .
The other places of Gmina Szczytno are well connected by secondary roads and country roads.
rail
The Olsztyn – Ełk ( German Allenstein – Lyck ) railway runs through the municipality in a west-east direction through the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship. The municipality is connected to the route with the Olszyny train station (Olschienen , 1938 to 1945 Ebendorf) .
Another railway line is the Ostrołęka – Szczytno line , which is currently only used between Chorzele and Szczytno. The railway stations Siódmak (Schodmack , Wiesendorf 1938 to 1945 ) and Szymany (Groß Schiemanen) are located on it . From the latter there is a connection to Olsztyn-Mazury Airport .
Until 1992/2002 the railway line Czerwonka – Szczytno ran through the municipality, which was connected with the stations Ochódno (Achodden , Neuvölklingen from 1938 to 1945 ) and Stare Kiejkuty (Alt Keykuth) . The line is no longer used and has already been partially dismantled.
air
The Olsztyn-Mazury Airport on January 21, 2016 in Szymany (Groß Schiemanen) is located in the area of Gmina Szczytno . His station Szymany Lotnisko is from the voivodship Olsztyn (Olsztyn) on the railway line Olsztyn-Ełk accessible by direct connection via Szczytno in about an hour. A direct track to the airport branches off from the Ostrołęka – Szczytno railway line at Szymany.
