Dębówko ( German  Eichthal ) is a village in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . It belongs to the Gmina Szczytno (rural municipality Ortelsburg ) in the Powiat Szczycieński ( Ortelsburg district ).

Geographical location

Dębówko is located in the southern center of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , five kilometers northwest of the district town of Szczytno ( German  Ortelsburg ).

history

For the village of Eichthal , which consisted of only a few small farms before 1945 , the founding deed was issued on December 4, 1829. It was one of the smallest rural communities in the Ortelsburg district .

Between 1874 and 1945 Eichthal was incorporated into the district of Schöndamerau in the Ortelsburg district. The whole village burned down in 1904 and was rebuilt in the years that followed.

Eichthal had 57 inhabitants in 1910. Their number was 47 in 1933 and rose to 52 by 1939. On the basis of the provisions of the Versailles Treaty , the population in the Allenstein voting area , to which Eichthal belonged, voted on July 11, 1920 about further state membership to East Prussia (and thus to Germany) or the connection to Poland. In Eichthal, 40 residents voted to remain with East Prussia, Poland did not cast any votes.

As a result of the war, Eichthal came to Poland in 1945 with all of southern East Prussia and was given the Polish form of the name “Dębówko”. Today the small village with the seat of a Schulzenamt (Polish Sołectwo ) is part of the rural community Szczytno ( Ortelsburg) in the powiat Szczycieński ( Ortelsburg district ), until 1998 of the Olsztyn Voivodeship , since then it belongs to the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . In 2011 the place had 200 inhabitants.

church

Until 1945 Eichthal was parish in the Protestant Church of Ortelsburg in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union as well as in the Roman Catholic church of the district town, then located in the Diocese of Warmia .

Today Dębówko also belongs to the Protestant parish Szczytno , which is now subordinate to the Masurian diocese of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland . On the Catholic side, the place is now oriented towards the parish church Trelkowo (Groß Schöndamerau) in the current Archdiocese of Warmia .

school

Before 1945 there was no school in Eichthal. The children were educated in Kobbelhals ( Kobyłocha in Polish ).

traffic

Dębówko is located on the Polish state road 57 (former German Reichsstraße 128 ), which runs through the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in a north-south direction and ends in the Masovian Voivodeship . There is a connection to rail traffic via the train station in the district town of Szczytno .
