Yevgeny Vitalyevich Dawydow ( Russian Евгений Витальевич Давыдов ; born May 27, 1967 in Chelyabinsk , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player . With the national team of the USSR he became world champion in 1990 and with the united team in 1992 Olympic champion .
Career
Yevgeny Davydov began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of the HK tractor Chelyabinsk , for whose professional team he was active from 1984 to 1986 in the Vysschaya League , the second Soviet division. He was then signed by the record champions HK CSKA Moscow , with whom he won the Soviet championship three times in a row until 1989 . He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1989 in the twelfth round as a total of 235 players by the Winnipeg Jets . Initially, however, he stayed with HK CSKA Moscow, before moving to the Winnipeg Jets in the National Hockey League towards the end of the 1991/92 season. After a successful season with 49 scorer points in a total of 83 games, the winger was given up to the Florida Panthers for the 1993/94 season in exchange for a four-round vote for the 1994 NHL Entry Draft . For the Panthers, however, he only played 21 games before he was transferred to the Ottawa Senators . He also began the 1994/95 season with the Senators in the NHL, but left them after only three games and spent the entire remaining season in the International Hockey League with the Chicago Wolves and San Diego Gulls .
For the 1995/96 season Dawydow returned to Europe, where he spent the season at EHC Olten in the Swiss National League B and at HC Amiens Somme in the French Ligue Magnus . Then he was under contract with Brynäs IF in the Swedish Elitserien for two years . Especially in the 1996/97 season he was able to convince the Northern Europeans and was the top scorer in the Elitserien main round with 30 goals . The 1998/99 season he started in his native Russia with the reigning champion Ak Bars Kazan in the Super League and finished it in the EV train in the Swiss National League A . He spent the following two years with his ex-club EHC Olten in the NLB. He started the 2001/02 season at Kärpät Oulu in the Finnish SM-liiga . However, he left the club after only seven games and was on the ice for the rest of the season with the capital club Berlin Capitals in the German ice hockey league .
In the 2002/03 season he played for the PHK Krylja Sowetow Moscow in the Superliga and the HC Milano Vipers in the Italian Serie A1 . In both teams, however, he only came to five league appearances. Most recently he played for one year each for Olofströms IK from Division 1 , the third Swedish division, and Titan Klin from the now second-rate Wysschaja League. Then he ended his career.
International
For the Soviet Union , Dawydow took part in the junior division of the U18 European Junior Championships in 1985 and the U20 World Junior Championships in 1986 and 1987 . At the U18 European Championship in 1985 he and his team won the silver medal and the gold medal at the U20 World Cup in 1986. At the U20 World Cup in 1987, the Soviet Union and Canada were excluded from the tournament after a direct clash between the two teams in a mass brawl in which all players and coaches were involved. Davydov was the first player not on the field to intervene in the brawl.
In the senior sector, he represented the Soviet Union at the 1990 World Cup , where he won the gold medal with his team. After winning the world title, he was awarded the title of Honored Master of Sports of the USSR . For the United Team he ran at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville and was Olympic champion with the team in his only Olympic participation.
