Jimi Hendrix Revival Festival
The Jimi Hendrix Revival Festival is an open air - music festival , which from 1995 to 2010 annually on the first weekend in September at Flügger beach in the western part of the Baltic Sea island of Fehmarn from the Fehmarn Festival Group as Fehmarn Open Air under the motto vain & Out was organized .
history
The festival got its name in memory of Jimi Hendrix , who had his last official appearance in Germany a few days before his death at the same place in 1970 as part of the Love and Peace Festival . Over the years, the organizers have seen increasing numbers of visitors; In 1998 there were around 5,000, in 2005 there were already over 25,000 festival visitors.
The festival took place for the last time in 2010. The 17th edition planned for 2011 was banned in 2011 by the Ostholstein district for nature conservation reasons. The festival did not take place in the following years either, despite intensive efforts by the organizers. A judicial objection to this prohibition has so far been unsuccessful (as of 2014). From 2014 on there will be a permanent exhibition on Jimi Hendrix and his concert on the island in 1970 at the festival site in Flügge . [obsolete] From September 2019 the festival will take place every 1st Saturday in September on Fehmarn, but at a new location on a meadow in the Strukkamp district. It has meanwhile been carried out three times again with great success by the Fehmarn Festival Group eV in the old style - for free and outdoors - and should continue to happen in the future with the support of the city of Fehmarn and various sponsors
