Joey Hishon (born October 20, 1991 in Stratford , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player on the position of the center . Most recently he was under contract with Luleå HF in the Svenska Hockeyligan .

Career

In his first season for Owen Sound Attack , Hishon ended the 2007-08 season as the team's youngest player and second-best scorer. In the following season he led his team with 81 points from 65 games back into the play-offs , which were missed the previous year. In the same season he was honored by the coaches of the Western Conference of the Ontario Hockey League among other things as best playmaker. During the 2009-10 OHL season , Hishon broke his foot while blocking a shot and sustained a knee injury. These injuries limited his bets to 36 games in which he scored 40 points. In the 2010 NHL Entry Draft , the player was selected in the first round in a total of 17th position by the Colorado Avalanche .

On March 14, 2011, Hishon signed a three-year contract with the Avalanche and finished the 2010/11 regular season with 87 points in 50 games. The striker was appointed to the OHL First All-Star team after this season . In the play-offs of this season, the Canadian and his team reached the final of the Ontario Hockey League after victories over the London Knights , Plymouth Whalers , Windsor Spitfires . Owen Sound prevailed there against the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors in the best-of-seven series with 4-3 victories and thus earned the J. Ross Robertson Cup and participation in the Memorial Cup 2011 . In this competition, Hishon was checked by Brayden McNabb in the last leg of the first tournament game of the attack against Kootenay Ice and hit by his elbow in the head. Due to the resulting head injuries Joey Hishon could not continue both the game and the tournament; McNabb received a suspension from one game.

Hishon's convalescence process dragged on for nearly two years, from May 2011 to March 2013, during which he did not play a game. On March 19, 2013, he finally made his debut for Colorado's farm team Lake Erie Monsters in the American Hockey League (AHL). After nine AHL games in the 2012/13 season , which has been running since October 2012 , in which he scored six points, Hishon had to suspend the last two games of the season after another check on the head and recurring symptoms.

In the following season , the center completed 50 games for Lake Erie, and he was also used for the first time for the Avalanche in the National Hockey League (NHL). Hishon played three games for Colorado against the Minnesota Wild in the 2014 NHL play-offs , scoring an assist.

After he was only used at the San Antonio Rampage in the AHL in the 2015/16 season , Hishon moved to Jokerit in the Continental Hockey League (KHL) in May 2016 .

International

The striker made his debut in the Canadian national ice hockey team at the U18 Junior World Championship in 2009 , where he was the Canadians' most successful scorer with ten points from six games. A medal was missed, however, and the team finished fourth. Joey Hishon was also invited to the 2011 U20 World Junior Championship but was not nominated for the final team.
