Johannes Cramer

Johannes Cramer (born November 8, 1950 in Göttingen ) is a German architect , building historian , building researcher and specialist book author . He was a professor of building and urban history at the Technical University of Berlin .

Life

He studied architecture from 1969 to 1975 and then worked as a research assistant at the Technical University of Darmstadt with Wolfgang Müller-Wiener and Walter Haas . In 1980 he received his doctorate there on the subject of "Tanners 'houses and tanners' quarters in the medieval city". He then worked at the German Archaeological Institute in Istanbul from 1980 to 1983 . In 1987 he obtained his habilitation at the University of Hanover with a thesis on "Color in South German half-timbered buildings".

From 1984 he initially held a substitute professorship at the University of Bamberg , followed by a Heisenberg grant from the German Research Foundation . In 1989 he became professor of building history in Bamberg. In 1997 he was appointed professor of building and urban history at the Technical University of Berlin.

Parallel to his activities in teaching and research, he also worked as an architect in the field of monument conservation in 1977. For the UNESCO he supervised various construction sites on the world cultural heritage , u. a. the Kaiserdom in Speyer , Berlin in Berlin and the Roman Forum in Rome .

From 2003 to 2014 he was co-editor with Dorothée Sack of the magazine " Architectura " published by the German art publisher .
