Johannes Friedrich Karl Dettinger , von Dettinger since 1870 , (born December 10, 1842 in Sulz am Neckar , † April 13, 1906 in Cannstatt ) was a Württemberg infantry general .

Life

Johannes was a son of the Wuerttemberg governor of the same name Johannes von Dettinger (1801–1866).

After attending the Latin school in Balingen and a private institute in Ludwigsburg , Dettinger graduated from the local war school . Subsequently, on May 16, 1859, he was transferred to the 6th Infantry Regiment of the Württemberg Army as a porter peek cadet. At the end of December 1859 he advanced to lieutenant and was transferred to the 2nd Infantry Regiment on September 24, 1860 . At the beginning of April 1865, Dettinger took a year off to study law and political science at the University of Tübingen . With the beginning of the war against Prussia , he returned to his regiment the following year and took part in the battle at Tauberbischofsheim as a first lieutenant .

After the war, Dettinger was promoted to battalion adjutant in mid-February 1867. In the same capacity he was assigned to the Landwehr Battalion on February 5, 1869 and at the same time assigned to the 2nd Infantry Brigade. There he worked as an adjutant from mid-January 1870 and took part in the battles at Wörth , Flize , Sedan , Mont Mesly, Villiers , Champigny-sur-Marne , Le Plant, Ville Evrart and the during the war against France Siege of Paris . For his work he received the Iron Cross II. Class and the Knight's Cross of the Military Merit Order . Associated with this was the elevation to the personal nobility status and he was allowed to call himself "von Dettinger" after being entered in the nobility register .

After the peace treaty , Dettinger was first assigned to the division's staff from September to November 1871 as head of office and then as an adjutant to the General Command of the Army Corps. Left in his command, he was transferred as a captain to the 6th Infantry Regiment (King Wilhelm) on November 27, 1871 . This was followed by a position in the General Staff of the XIII from mid-October 1872 . Army Corps . Short term Dettinger was from 23 February to 6 May 1876 for guiding a company of Grenadier Regiment "Queen Olga" no. 119 commanded, rose early March 1877 surplus Major and was on 16 April 1877 in the General Staff of 26 Division shifted. Subsequently, Dettinger was appointed commander of the 26th Division (1st Royal Württembergische) and on August 6, 1895 was awarded the Commander of the Order of Military Merit. With the award of the Grand Cross of the Order of Frederick , he was put up for disposal on March 16, 1897 with a pension . After his departure , Dettinger received the character of General of the Infantry on February 24, 1898 .
