John Emms (chess player)

John Michael Emms (born March 14, 1967 ) is a British chess player. He has held the title of grandmaster since 1995 . In 2004 he became the coach of a women's team at the 36th Chess Olympiad in Mallorca . He is also a prolific chess writer.

Emms took part with the English national team in the Chess Olympiads in 2000 and 2002 and in the 1999 European Team Championship. He played club chess in the German Federal Chess League from 1995 to 1997 for PSV / BSV Wuppertal and from 1999 to 2005 for SG Solingen . He won the Four Nations Chess League (4NCL) six times: 1993/94 with Invicta Knights Maidstone , 2002/03 , 2004/05 and 2005/06 with Wood Green , 2010/11 with Pride and Prejudice and 2011/12 again with Wood Green . He also took part in the European Club Cup four times with the Invicta Knights Maidstone .

Emms' Elo number is 2463 (as of May 2016), his highest Elo number of 2586 he had in July 1999.
