John Shea (actor)
John Shea (born April 14, 1949 in North Conway , New Hampshire ) is an American actor . Shea was best known as the deceitful Lex Luthor in the television series Superman - The Adventures of Lois & Clark .
life and work
Shea was funded by a scholarship to study at Bates College in Lewiston , Maine . He then graduated from Yale University's Drama School as a director . Through this training he came to New York and worked there on various stage plays but also on television films . At the side of Kate Capshaw he won the "Best Actor Award" at the Montreal Film Festival for "Windy City". On stage he won the "Drama Desk Award" for American Days , the Obie Award for Dining Room and in 1976 the "Theater World Award" for his portrayal of the Jewish student Avigdor in the stage version of Yentl . In 1988 he got a Emmy for the miniseries Baby M . In his career he played very different roles, evil characters like Lex Luthor or a Nazi in the miniseries Wolves never hunt alone ( Hitler's SS: Portrait in Evil ), but also Robert F. Kennedy . He repeatedly made guest appearances on television, for example in Sex and the City , Tales from the Crypt or Law & Order: Special Victims Unit . His second major television role alongside Superman was the representation of Adam Kane in the series Mutant X .
So far, Shea has also appeared as a director and screenwriter twice. In 1998 he directed Southie Terror in South Boston . Gray Lady followed in 2017 .
John Shea currently resides in New York City with his second wife Melissa and two children and is a founding member of the Nantucket Film Festival .
