Jonathan Phillips (born July 14, 1982 in Cardiff , Wales ) is a British ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Sheffield Steelers in the Elite Ice Hockey League since 2006 .

Career

Jonathan Phillips began his career as a hockey player with Cardiff Rage in his hometown. In 1999 he moved to the Cardiff Devils , who were then playing in the Ice Hockey Superleague , the top British division at the time. After he was on the ice for some time at Basingstoke Bison from the second-rate British National League (BNL) in the 2000/01 season in addition to his missions for the Devils , he moved to the Milton Keynes Kings in the BNL in 2001 . But after only a year he returned to the Cardiff Devils, who have since started in the BNL. From 2003 to 2006 he took part with the Devils in the newly founded Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL). Since then he has been under contract with the Sheffield Steelers , who also play in the EIHL. From 2007 to 2013 he was the captain of the Yorkshire team , with which he became British champions in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2015 and 2016 . In 2014 and 2017, he and his team also won the league's play-off championship. From 2007 to 2013 he was and since 2014 he has been captain of his team again. For Cardiff and Sheffield, he has so far played over 700 games in the EIHL.

International

For Great Britain , Phillips took part in the junior division of the U18 B World Championship in 1999 and the U18 World Championship of the European Division I in 2000, as well as the U20-C World Championship in 2000 and the U20 title fights of the Division II in 2001 and 2002 .

In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the World Championships in Division I in 2003 , 2004 , 2005 , 2006 , 2007 , 2008 , 2010 , 2011 , 2012 , 2013 , 2014 , 2015 , 2016 when he was voted the best player on his team, 2017 and 2018 , when the British made the leap to the top tier of the world championships for the first time since relegation in 1994. He has been the British team captain since 2010. He was also on the ice for his colors at the qualifying tournaments for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , 2014 in Sochi and 2018 in Pyeongchang .
