Kückelheim is a district of the community Eslohe (Sauerland) in the North Rhine-Westphalian Hochsauerlandkreis .

geography

The village is located about 4 km southwest of Eslohe in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park . Neighborhoods are Bockheim , Dormecke , In der Marpe and Niedermarpe . Landesstraße 880 runs through Kückelheim. At the end of 2019, the town had 330 inhabitants.

history

Kückelheim was first mentioned in 1403. Early clues about the size of the place can be found in an appraisal register (used to collect taxes) for the year 1543. According to this, there were 9 persons required to be appraised in “Kuickelheimb” (by far the highest tax obligation was due to Thonis Veltmann, Thonis Kracht and Hanß Rüttgers); the number should have agreed with the farms or houses that existed at the time.

The old forge in the village was built in 1863 and restored true to the original in 2002. On January 16, 1911, the Finnentrop – Wennemen railway was put into operation. The place got a train station with the construction of the line. In October 1924 the club house of the St. Hubertus rifle brotherhood, founded in 1922, was completed. Rail traffic declined after the Second World War. The last passenger train from Finnentrop to Wennemen ran on May 21, 1966. The line was stopped four months later.

Since January 1st, 1975, Kückelheim has been part of the extended community of Eslohe. At the beginning of 1976 the rails between Serkenrode and Eslohe were dismantled. The 689 m long Kückelheim tunnel was then bricked up. In 1995 a bike path was built on the old railway line. Today's SauerlandRadring leads again through the newly opened Kückelheim tunnel. On the occasion of the 600th birthday of the place, a village coat of arms was created in 2003.
