history

Kantersdorf Castle

The place was first mentioned in 1359 as Cantersdorf . The area around Kantersdorf was partially populated as early as the Neolithic Age. This is proven by several archaeological excavations in the place. Around 1600 the renaissance castle was built in Kantersdorf under the princes of Brieg .

After the First Silesian War in 1742, Kantersdorf and most of Silesia fell to Prussia .

After the reorganization of the province of Silesia , the rural community of Kantersdorf belonged to the district of Brieg in the administrative district of Breslau from 1816 . In 1845 there was a castle, an outbuilding, an evangelical school, a brewery, a distillery and 84 houses in the village. In the same year, 384 people lived in Kantersdorf, 48 of them Catholic. In 1874 the district of Taschenberg-Michelau was founded, which consisted of the rural communities of Cantersdorf, Jeschen, Klein Neudorf, Michelau, Taschenberg and the estate districts of Cantersdorf, Klein Neudorf and Taschenberg. In 1885 Kantersdorf had 370 inhabitants.

In 1933 Kantersdorf had 395 and 389 inhabitants. Until 1945 the place was in the district of Brieg .

As a result of the Second World War, the German town of Kantersdorf fell under Polish administration in 1945, like most of Silesia . Subsequently, the place was renamed Kantorowice and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 it was incorporated into the Opole Voivodeship. In 1999, the place came to the newly founded Powiat Breszki ( Brieg district ).

Attractions

  • The Kanter Village Castle is a Renaissance building and was built in 1600 by the Prince of Brieg . In 1720 the building became the property of the city of Brzeg. in the 19th century part of the castle was demolished and rebuilt. In 1936 the facility was renovated. The two-story brick building has a rectangular floor plan, a four-story square tower and a half-timbered roof. The facade was originally provided with sgraffiti . On the ground floor on the northeast side is a hall with cloister vaults and stucco ribs. On the upper floor there is a hall with the remains of a ceiling beam with scenes from a hunt. The building is surrounded by a moat. The wooden bridge that used to lead to the castle was destroyed in 1997. The adjoining farm buildings and storerooms date from the 18th century. Today the castle is privately owned. The castle and the adjoining Vorwerk buildings have been under monument protection since 1964.
