Karl Friedrich Theodor von Flotow (born November 9, 1791 in Pritzwalk , † February 9, 1871 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 3rd Cavalry Brigade .

Life

origin

Karl Friedrich was the son of Adam Ernst von Flotow (1761–1846) and his wife Albertine Johanna Sophie Juliane Elisabeth, born von Platen (1770–1846). His father was a prime lieutenant a. D. , most recently in the cuirassier regiment No. 2 as well as Herr auf Mesendorf and governor of the monastery Stift zum Heiligengrabe .

Military career

Flotow occurred on September 1, 1804 as the corporal corporal in the infantry regiment "of Moellendorf" the Prussian army , but was initially exempt service. From September 7, 1805 to August 29, 1808 he attended the knight academy in Brandenburg an der Havel and on April 1, 1809 came to the Brandenburg Cuirassier Regiment as a portepeefähnrich . On August 14, 1809, he was promoted to second lieutenant with a patent from December 9, 1807 because of his good exam . During the Wars of Liberation he fought near Großgörschen , Dresden , Kulm , received the Order of St. Vladimir IV Class for the battle near Liebertwolkwitz and the Iron Cross II Class for Leipzig . Flotow also took part in the battles at Laon and Paris, and the battles at Champaubert , Sézanne , Gué à Trême, Oulchy-le-Château and Claye . On January 6, 1814, he was transferred to the adjutantage and was promoted to Rittmeister until July 1815 .

In 1816 he was awarded the Order of St. John . On March 30, 1821, Flotow Major was transferred to Erfurt with a patent from April 7, 1821 and as adjutant of the 8th Cavalry Brigade . This was followed from March 30, 1827 as an adjutant at the General Command of the VIII Army Corps in Koblenz . In 1830 he was awarded the service cross and on March 30, 1834, he was aggregated to the 7th Cuirassier Regiment . On March 30, 1835, Flotow was initially commissioned with the command of the 7th Uhlan Regiment and a year later was promoted to lieutenant colonel and appointed regimental commander. In this position, Flotow rose to colonel on March 30, 1838. On March 22, 1843, he was transferred to Stettin as commander of the 3rd Cavalry Brigade and promoted to major general on March 30, 1844. On September 16, 1845 Flotow was awarded the Red Eagle Award II. Class with oak leaves before him on March 5, 1845 board for disposition presented.

After his departure , King Wilhelm I. Flotow awarded the Order of the Crown, 2nd class, on March 22, 1862 . He died in Berlin on February 9, 1871 and his body was transferred to Angern for burial on February 12, 1871 .

Flotow married on June 29, 1822 in Angern Auguste Luise Adolfine von Cramm (1793-1854) from the House of Völkersheim, widow of Count Friedrich von der Schulenburg (1769-1821).
