Karl Ludwig von Zastrow (born May 12, 1784 in Potsdam , † September 4, 1835 in Glogau ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Karl Ludwig came from the Zastrow family . He was a son of the Prussian general Friedrich Wilhelm Christian von Zastrow (1752-1830) and his wife Louise. born Baroness von Langenthal.

Military career

Zastrows attended the Académie militaire and in early December 1800 was employed as a cornet in the Gens d'armes regiment of the Prussian Army . A year later he was promoted to second lieutenant and served as regimental adjutant in 1802/05. During the Fourth Coalition War , Zastrow took part in the Battle of Auerstedt , was wounded near Wichmannsdorf and taken prisoner. He managed to escape and make his way to East Prussia . Thereupon he was aggregated in mid-March 1807 as prime lieutenant in the hussar regiment "von Prittwitz" . In the battle of Heilsberg , Zastrow proved himself and received the order Pour le Mérite .

After the Peace of Tilsit , Zastrow rose to Rittmeister and squadron chief until March 1810 . He took part in the Russian campaign in 1812 and fought in the battles near Bausk, Dünaburg and Ragnit , where he was seriously wounded. As a major , he was squadron chief in the East Prussian National Cavalry Regiment from late March to early December 1813 . Then Zastrow was transferred to the Brandenburg Hussar Regiment in the same function .

In the Wars of Liberation Zastrow fought in the battle of the Katzbach , where he was wounded again, at Laon , Montmirail , Château-Thierry , Ligny and at Wavre . His behavior was recognized by the award of both classes of the Iron Cross .

Having in the meantime the King -executive of Neuchâtel was commanded, he took on 29 March 1815, the 5th Lancers Regiment as commander and the same year became a lieutenant colonel and in September 1818 Colonel promoted. On October 30, 1825, Zastrow was appointed commander of the 9th Cavalry Brigade in Glogau . In this position he was promoted to major general on March 30, 1828 and on the occasion of the festival of the order he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves, in January 1832 . When he was appointed commander of the 9th Division on March 30, 1835, he also became commander of Glogau, where he died six months as a result of his war injuries.

Zastrow married Maria Olympia von Pourtalès (1797–1868) in 1815 . The following children emerged from the marriage, which was divorced in 1829:

His second marriage was in 1833, when he married Editha Sophie von Miltitz (1810–1864), daughter of General Dietrich von Miltitz . The couple had a son and a daughter:
