Karl Philipp von Anhalt

Karl Philipp von Anhalt (born August 7, 1732 in Capelle ; † May 9, 1806 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general and head of the regiment .

Life

Karl Philipp was the older illegitimate son of the Hereditary Prince of Anhalt-Dessau Wilhelm Gustav (1699–1737) and his lover Henriette Marianne Schardius. She was the daughter of the general superintendent of Dessau Johann Peter Schardius († 1733) and later married the secret consistorial councilor Günther in Köthen .

Career

Karl Philipp joined the army , more precisely the field artillery corps , in 1756 and immediately took part in the campaign , more precisely the battles of Lobositz , Prague , Kolin , Roßbach and Leuthen . He was wounded near Leuthen, but was also involved in the attack on Hochkirch , the siege of Prague and the battle of Reichenbach . In 1759 he was promoted to second lieutenant.

Together with his younger brother Heinrich Wilhelm (1734–1801), Karl Philipp was raised to the Prussian nobility on January 3, 1761 in Leipzig by the Prussian King Friedrich II under the name of “von Anhalt” .

He advanced further, in 1761 to staff captain , received the order Pour le Mérite in 1762 , then in 1763 to captain and company commander and in 1778 to major . In the same year he took part in the new campaign . It was not until 1787 that he rose further in the ranking to lieutenant colonel and commander of the three mounted artillery companies. In 1790 he advanced to colonel and was promoted to chief of the 2nd artillery regiment in 1794 and finally to major general in 1795. Due to health reasons, in 1795 he received an annual pension of 1,000 thalers .

Karl Philipp von Anhalt was buried in the garrison church in 1806 .

family

Karl Philipp von Anhalt married Friederike Albertine von Wedel (1751–1825), a daughter of the Prussian Lieutenant General and War Minister Carl Heinrich von Wedel (1712–1782) in Berlin in 1772 . Her sister Caroline Friederike von Wedel (1748–1780) had been married to his brother Heinrich Wilhelm since 1768.

  • Karl Friedrich Wilhelm (1780–1805), Premier Lieutenant in the 1st Battalion of the Guard in Potsdam , succumbed to a wound received in a duel
