Karl von Esebeck

Karl Christian Burghard von Esebeck (born April 25, 1745 in Zweibrücken , † November 23, 1809 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Karl Christian Burghard was the son of Hans Asmus von Esebeck (* 25 August 1711; † 21 May 1771) and his wife Johanna Friederike, née von Göllnitz. His father was a privy councilor and minister of state in Zweibrücken as well as a master of salts, Liebersee and Cocherau.

Military career

Esebeck was employed in 1760 as an Estandartenjunker in the body curling regiment of the Prussian Army and was appointed cornet on June 18, 1760 . Esebeck fought with his regiment in the 1760/63 campaign near Torgau , Freiberg and Langensalza and was promoted to lieutenant on June 18, 1764 after the peace agreement. On June 25, 1775, he was promoted to staff assistant master . As Rittmeister and squadron chief , Esebeck then took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . In the further course of his military career he became major on September 3, 1786 and as such went to war against France in 1792 . During the campaign, Esebeck became a lieutenant colonel on January 23, 1793 and was awarded the Pour le Mérite order for his services during the battle of Kaiserslautern on December 11, 1793 . He then fought at Trippstadt and was finally appointed regimental commander on January 22, 1794. On August 1, 1794, Esebeck had to go to the military hospital in Mainz because he was suffering from dysentery . After his recovery he came to the regiment's depot in the middle of the month and was promoted to colonel on January 21, 1795 . King Friedrich Wilhelm III. appointed Esebeck on May 12, 1803 chief of the "von Busch" dragoon regiment and five days later he promoted him to major general. In the Fourth Coalition War against France, Esebeck led his regiment in the battle of Prussian Eylau and the battles of Braunsberg and Jesau . A year after the Peace of Tilsit , Esebeck submitted his farewell , which was granted to him with an annual pension of 1000 thalers .

He died in Berlin and was buried on November 26, 1809 in the garrison cemetery there.

family

Esebeck married on December 22, 1771 in Dessau with Wilhelmine Charlotte Schönberg von Brenkenhoff (* February 5, 1752, † September 8, 1827 in Siegelsdorf, Merseburg district). She was the daughter of Court Marshal Franz Balthasar Schönberg von Brenkenhoff . The following children were born from the marriage:
