Sigismund Erhard Karl von Knobloch (born September 16, 1773 in Berlin ; † July 7, 1858 in New Mexico near Stargard ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

His parents were the Prussian major in the "von Thüna" infantry regiment Philipp Wilhelm von Knobloch (* March 4, 1729 - November 27, 1778) and his wife Christiane Wilhelmine, born (of) Gotter (* December 12, 1735; † 18. March 1811).

career

From September 1, 1785 Knobloch visited the cadet house in Berlin and on April 4, 1789 was employed as a private corporal in the infantry regiment "Alt-Bornstedt" of the Prussian army . There he was promoted to ensign on March 5, 1793 and took part in the battles at Konin, Kolo, Lowitsch and the siege of Warsaw during the campaign in Poland in 1794/95 .

On May 9, 1795 Knobloch was promoted to second lieutenant without a patent . He received the patent for this rank on October 29, 1803 dated February 1, 1795. In the years 1803/04 Knobloch was sent to the Ukraine because of his interest and understanding of the remont industry . That was very unusual for an infantry officer. On April 25, 1804 he was promoted to lieutenant prime minister. On January 8, 1805 he switched to the cavalry and was employed in the hussar regiment "von Gettkandt" . During the Fourth Coalition War he took part in the battle near Neustadt in Silesia and came on April 3, 1807 in the "Marwitz" corps.

After the Peace of Tilsit , Knobloch was transferred to the hussar squadron "von Rudorff" on January 3, 1808 . From there he was transferred to the Brandenburg Hussar Regiment on April 6, 1809 , where he was promoted to staff cavalry officer on September 8, 1809 and to captain and squadron chief on June 3, 1811 . Two squadrons came to the 2nd combined hussar regiment, which took part in the campaign in Russia on the side of France in 1812 . Knobloch fought in the skirmishes near Ostrowno, Vitebsk, Krasnoye , Smolensk and Borodino . He was wounded at Borodino. For the campaign he received the Cross of the Legion of Honor on August 22, 1812 and the Order of Pour le Mérite on February 18, 1813 . He was also promoted to major on February 19, 1812 and appointed commander of the National Cavalry Regiment on December 2, 1813. During the Wars of Liberation he fought in the battles near Bautzen , on the Katzbach , Leipzig , Laon and Paris . In Leipzig he acquired the Iron Cross II. Class and the Order of St. Vladimir IV. Class, for the battle near Coulommieres Knobloch was awarded the Iron Cross I. Class. He was wounded in the battle at Trilport and received the Order of St. Anne II. Class.

On February 21, 1815 Knobloch was appointed lieutenant colonel and commander of the Guard Hussar Regiment . In this position he was promoted to colonel on March 30, 1817 with a patent from April 4, 1817 . Due to his illness, Knobloch could no longer be used in the field. He therefore resigned from active service on October 6, 1819 with the right to a command post and received waiting allowance . On December 3, 1819, he was given permission to wear the uniform of the Guard Hussar Regiment. On November 1, 1825, he received the service cross . On February 25, 1833 he received his departure with the character as major general and pension . In addition, Knobloch received a gift of 300 thalers on April 22, 1833. He died on July 7, 1858 in New Mexico (Saatzig district).

He married Karoline Philippine Henriette von Kameke (* April 19, 1789, † November 21, 1870) from the house of Kratzig on August 11, 1809 in Kratzig.
