Karl Freiherr von Rosenberg (born February 28, 1828 in Neuruppin , † April 18, 1891 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Karl was a son of the Prussian major general Ernst von Rosenberg (1799–1864) and his wife Henriette, born von Winterfeldt (1805–1890). His brother Johann (1844–1913) became a Prussian major general.

Military career

Rosenberg attended the higher civil school in Frankfurt (Oder) and the cadet houses in Wahlstatt and Berlin . Subsequently, on May 27, 1845, he was transferred to the Emperor Franz Grenadier Regiment of the Prussian Army as Portepeefähnrich and was promoted to Second Lieutenant by mid-March 1846 . After his participation in the suppression of the March Revolution in Berlin in 1848 , he and his regiment came into action during the campaign against Denmark near Schleswig . From April 1853, Rosenberg was assigned to the school department of the Infantry Training Battalion for four years and rose to captain by the end of May 1859 . On June 7, 1860 he was transferred to the newly established 4th Guards Grenadier Regiment in Koblenz , where he was appointed company commander two months later . In this capacity he took part in the 1864 war against Denmark in the siege of Fredericia , the battle at Gudsoe and the assault on the Düppeler Schanzen and received the Red Eagle Order IV class with swords for his work .

In the war against Austria in 1866, Rosenberg led his company in the battles of Soor and Königgrätz . After the war he rose to major in mid-December 1866 and at the end of May 1867 was commander of the 1st battalion that he led in the war against France until he was wounded in the battle of Gravelotte . After his recovery he took part in the battle of Le Bourget and the siege of Paris .

Awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class, Rosenberg rose to the rank of colonel after the peace treaty until the beginning of September 1873 and was commissioned on February 14, 1874 with the command of the 1st Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 31 in Altona under position à la suite . From 9 June 1874 to 12 May 1880 he was commander of this association and was then promoted to major general as commander of the 19th Infantry Brigade of Posen added. Rosenberg married on July 13, 1859 in Frankfurt (Oder) with Emilie von Wulffen (1838-1860). She was a sister of the Prussian Lieutenant General Ferdinand von Wulffen (1833-1902). After her untimely death, he married Rosalie von Scholten (1837-1918), a daughter of the Prussian Lieutenant General Wilhelm von Scholten, on January 4, 1865 in Koblenz .
