Wilhelm von Scholten
Friedrich Wilhelm Georg Leopold von Scholten (born November 27, 1797 in Berlin ; † February 4, 1868 there ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and commandant of the fortress Koblenz and Ehrenbreitstein .
Life
origin
Wilhelm was the son of the Prussian Colonel Friedrich Wilhelm von Scholten (1755-1819) and his wife Marie Philippine Amalie, née Sieburg (1770-1840).
Military career
During the Wars of Liberation, Scholten joined the Guard Artillery Brigade of the Prussian Army as a gunner and was promoted to second lieutenant until mid-April 1816 . From 1818 to 1821 he was commanded for further training at the General War School. By mid-February 1833 he was promoted to captain and company commander . On the occasion of the Kalisch revue in 1835 he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir IV Class. On June 16, 1842 he came to Torgau as an artillery officer . From there he was transferred to the adjutantage on February 27, 1844 and commanded as adjutant of the 1st artillery inspection. At the end of March 1844, Scholten advanced to major and in mid-March 1846 joined the 8th Artillery Brigade as a department commander . On the occasion of the suppression of the Baden Revolution , he was appointed commander of the artillery with the Army Corps in Baden on July 15, 1849. For the battle near Ubstadt Scholten received the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class with ribbon and swords as well as the Knight's Cross of the Military Karl Friedrich Order of Merit .
After the mobilization was over , Scholten returned to the 8th Artillery Brigade in mid-December 1850, became a lieutenant colonel at the end of March 1852 and was promoted to regimental commander on May 27, 1852. In this capacity he was promoted to colonel on March 22, 1853 . With a patent from April 9, 1857, he was promoted to major general on May 30, 1857 and appointed commander of Breslau . On March 18, 1858, Scholten was given command of the 5th Cavalry Brigade in Frankfurt (Oder) . For the duration of the mobile relationship on the occasion of the Sardinian War , he was commander of the 3rd Cavalry Division and received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Swords on the Ring, and the Order of St. Stanislaus, 1st Class. On July 1, 1860, Scholten was appointed inspector of the 1st artillery inspection and in October was awarded the Commendation of Honor of the Oldenburg House and Merit Order of Duke Peter Friedrich Ludwig . After being promoted to lieutenant general on the occasion of King Wilhelm I's coronation ceremonies in October 1861, Scholten was appointed in command of the fortress Koblenz and Ehrenbreitstein on April 3, 1862. On his 50th anniversary in service, the king paid tribute to him by awarding him the Order of the Red Eagle First Class with oak leaves and swords on the ring. On November 8, 1864, Scholten was finally put up for disposal with a pension .
He died on February 4, 1868 in Berlin and was buried on February 7, 1868 in the Jerusalem cemetery .

Scholten married Auguste Karoline Marie Beyrich (1806–1880) in Berlin on August 6, 1825. The following children were born from the marriage:
