Kesselbach is a district of the municipality of Hünstetten in the Rheingau-Taunus district in southern Hesse .

geography

Kesselbach is located in the Taunus ( western Hintertaunus ), north of the Taunus main ridge between Limburg and the state capital Wiesbaden . The federal highway 417 runs a short distance to the west .

The place is in the Rhein-Taunus nature park . The highest point near Kesselbach is the Geierskopf at 429 meters above sea level .

history

Today's main road was known around 1000 under the name Hühnerstraße (actually Hünerstraße or Bubenheimer Straße ) and an important trade route that led through the district . In 1260 Kesselbach was first mentioned as Kezzelbach .

The beginnings of recognizable history for Kesselbach can be found in the Bleidenstadt monastery . Between 1066 and 1075 Diether I von Katzenelnbogen was Vogt of the monastery. He was also responsible for securing the road and was allowed to collect customs here . At that time, Hühnerstrasse ran a little further east, through what is now the center of Kesselbach. He had a customs post set up as a fortified courtyard in the area around Kesselbach because of the border location. This formed the nucleus of the settlement, which, however, remained very modest due to the poor soil conditions.

In the Middle Ages, the ownership of Kesselbach changed several times. In addition to Nassau , the Brunnenberg monastery (Unterlahn), the lords of Geroldstein , von Laurenburg, von Stockheim , the St. Martin Stift in Idstein , as well as the aforementioned Bleidenstadt monastery and the lords of Katzenelnbogen are to be mentioned.

Due to the straightening of the Hühnerstraße, which then ran west of the village, and the poor agriculture, the village was meaningless at this time and was exposed to the risk of disappearing entirely.

On December 31, 1971, as part of the regional reform in Hesse, the former municipalities of Beuerbach, Kesselbach, Ketternschwalbach, Limbach, Strinz-Trinitatis and Wallbach voluntarily merged to form the new municipality of Hünstetten. Local districts with local advisory councils and local councilors were formed for all formerly independent communities . In the centrally located Wallbach, a new building complex was built for the municipal administration.

Cultural monuments

There are two listed cultural monuments in Kesselbach . The bakery on Talstrasse in the center of the village is a free-standing rectangular single-storey building made of unplastered quarry stone masonry with a crooked hip roof and visible framework in the gable areas. The bakery was built in the early 19th century and was comprehensively repaired from 1982 to 1983. Opposite the bakehouse is an open space with a fountain.

The listed property Talstrasse 15 is also located on this site. This courtyard consists of a small two-zone half-timbered house from the late 18th century and the barns and stables laid out in the corner.

Infrastructure

There is a village community center and a communal bakery in the village , which anyone can rent for baking.
